Most of the new lathes have reverse rotation. Reverse rotation turning is gaining in popularity as tools are manufactured to take advantage of this process. The Badger Full Swan Reverse Rotation is manufactured for simple application of reverse rotation turning.
The Badger Full Swan Neck Tool Reverse Rotation is also manufactured from 5/8” bar stock with a turned taper to hold the # 3 Cutter. The shaft is about 10 ½” long. This tool is especially useful for turning the undercut areas in boxes, bowls, and the insides of hollow forms such as a Southwest style hollowed form. It is a variation of the standard Badger Straight Tool, with the only difference being the distinctive swan-neck.
These Hunter Swan Necks are real problem solvers. With practice, you will have very little sanding to do. By the way, the harder and more dense the wood, the better the Hunter tool seems to like it.
The handled Badger Straight tool is provided with a 16” wood handle and has a shaft projection of 8”. Without a handle, the overall length of the tool is 11”. We recommend a 16” handle with about 3” of the shaft epoxied into the handle.
